Zeolite – what is it and is it good for your dog?
Put simply, Zeolite is a naturally occurring substance which can detoxify ones body from a variety of toxins; and all mammals can eat it including us humans!
Why are we interested in them?

Toxins are everywhere, heavy metals, like lead, mercury, cadmium and arsenic, chemicals, pesticides and herbicides all have resounding health implications on not only humans, but also our canine friends. In fact, the Environmental Working Group conducted a ground-breaking study that discovered that our animals have higher levels of toxicity in their bodies than we do.
Animals and their compressed life spans, proximity to the ground, and their smaller size, they may exhibit health problems from exposure much more quickly than we do.
So how do we help our furry family members? Cue Zeolite.
Zeolites are uniquely-structured minerals that can help detoxify and promote healing. It is not only beneficial for dogs, but for all pets (including horses and cats) and humans too.
Zeolites are 100% natural and occur when volcanoes erupt and lava flows into both salt and fresh water lakes, creating a unique mineral. They feature a cage-like structure that naturally draws into itself positively charged particles like mercury, cadmium, lead, arsenic and other heavy metals, as well as chemicals, pesticides, herbicides and allergens. Once trapped within the zeolite’s “cage”, these harmful substances are excreted from the body safely and naturally.
Zeolites are not a new or untried fad. They have been used in Asia for over 800 years to promote health and well-being.

So what can Zeolite do for our dogs?
Detoxify the system
A mammal can not store Zeolite. As such, it passes through the system and thus, taking anything it collects along the way.
But how does it do this?
Put simply, it has a honeycomb structure which has negatively charged ions within it. This acts in a similar way to a magnet, and attract anything with a positive charge.
Many toxins such as heavy metals etc… are positively charged…… As such, as Zeolite passes through a body, it attracts the positively charged heavy metals as it goes by and trapping them. Then they are expelled from the system once the zeolite has been passed.
Corrects internal pH levels
The kidneys control the bodies pH levels. This means it helps balance the body and makes sure it isn’t too acidic.
To maintain good health, the body needs to have a certain pH. If this gets out of balance, then health problems can occur.
How Zeolite can help “Alkalize” the body is by attracting the heavy metals which get stored in the kidneys out of the system.
These heavy metals impair kidney function and so if one can get rid of these, the kidney can go about its day and do its job of managing the bodies internal pH properly.
Thus, taking the pressure off the kidneys and allowing them to operate properly.
Improves Gut Health
Studies of Zeolite has been shown to help with increasing the integrity of the gut lining. This helps with any leaky gut issues. Thus, helping to prevent the wrong things transferring from the gut and into the blood stream……
Zeolite also has anti-inflammatory properties which assists the gut, and the gut lining from being inflamed and hence not being able to operate correctly.
As we know from previous articles, and from the strong messages in the media, gut health is an extremely important factor in ensuring over-all good health and long lives.
Helps make the Immune System Stronger
Heavy metals can suppress the immune system which then leaves the body susceptible to a variety of conditions including auto-immune disorders and nasty pathogens etc…
Because Zeolite attracts heavy metals away from the body, it assist the immune system by protecting it against the build up of such immune suppressing heavy metals.
Further to this, it has also been shown the Zeolite actually encourages the production of vital T-Cells which are used for fighting the bad bugs in our body.
